Leadership at Gateway Some might wonder, “How is the leadership set up around here?” Well, our answer starts with the phrase “Staff driven and Elder protected.” What does this mean? To start with, “staff driven” means our full-time staff envision and manage the day-to-day operation of our ministries. How do they do this? Not by doing all the work themselves. Instead, Gateway staff develop the ministry capacity of our church by equipping, involving, training, and empowering people to serve Christ. In sum, the staff leads by equipping volunteers for ministry. At the same time, Gateway’s staff is accountable to a Board of Elders. The Board of Elders serves in a governance capacity, overseeing the church with wisdom and discernment, ensuring that Gateway maintains Biblical integrity, clarity in purpose, and effectiveness in our mission to Live for Christ, Grow in Christ and Serve like Christ. The scriptures teach that Elders are ultimately responsible for the care and protection of Christ’s Church. That is why we describe our leadership model as “Staff driven and Elder protected.” It is a model that strives for healthy effective leadership with accountability and oversight as these two teams of leaders pray and work together for a healthier and stronger church. 2010 Gateway Elders Mark Tarman-Chairman, Dale Lyons-Vice Chairman, John Kiso- Secretary, Bill Bensinger, Mike Biggs, B.J.
